Embodiment matters.
“By learning to be present with yourself what you are literally doing is engaging in a rebellion that is both biological, spiritual, psychological, and environmental.”
— Caroline Myss, “Anatomy of the Spirit”
Somatic therapy is “what” work.
Often times when we are hurting we want to know why. We try to find the cause of our suffering, who or what to blame, and unravel what the “big problem” is by discovering an answer for what’s wrong with us. But the thing with why is that it can be a very unfulfilling and oftentimes fruitless ongoing pursuit. There is never a big enough answer to satisfy our pain.
I like to call Somatic Therapy “what” work. Meaning, instead on trying to figure out why everything is happening, we focus on what is actually happening in the moment. We get a feel for it. What it feels like in the body, and what it might be saying.
“Soma” means living body. Everything you’ve been through in your life, you have been accompanied by your body. Every thought you’ve had, it hears. Every dream you’ve had, it feels. Every pain, it knows. The body really does “keep the score.” And it also holds the seed of your prosperity. Your natural ability to heal, your well-being, your sense of ease, is all your natural birthright as a human on this planet.
Learning how to relate to your body and build a connection to your nervous system and what is happening in your self helps cultivate a profound sense of safety, which can be the bedrock upon which grace and compassion flourish.
Each person holds a unique purpose in their consciousness, and with somatic therapy you can grow to live in synergy with your body, mind, emotion, and soul. You learn to honor the truth of your existence, and set forth in your purpose with a deeper sense of belonging.
Somatic Therapy is a pyscho-physical modality that uses the body and nervous system as a starting place to explore your life and story.
When healing from a Nervous System level, we move from attempting to intellectualize our healing into a deep attunement and building trust in the intelligence of the body.
We are returning to the body to cultivate relationship, learn its language, take in its very personalized wisdom. Powerful things happen when we recognize the truth experienced in our bodies, our body cannot lie.
