Healing Principles

The Healing Principles I work by…

Courage could be considered the wisdom to recognize what is happening in the here and now, and is a skill we practice when leaning into our bodies, even when it makes us uncomfortable.

Ease is a principle necessary to allow, accept and embrace fully we you are from moment to moment. Ease is a byproduct of empathetic self-attunement, and trust.

Curiosity is our natural evolutionary ally. As infants, curiosity is the driving force for our development. Curiosity is an openness to discover. As one of my teachers says, “it is impossible to be judgmental and curious at the same time.”

Presence is the most healing of the virtues. We practice building capacity to settle into and arrive safely into one’s body in the present. Healing happens when beliefs, attitudes, thoughts, and aspects of your self that have previously been stuck in the past or future begin to arrive into the here and now.

You are your own healer. I believe to be human you have the innate and biologically imperative ability to heal yourself. To me, there is nothing more woo than being in a body. The body is a sovereign part of the self that has the expertise to do many processes that the mind is always catching up with via science. I believe much of healing is the wisdom to trust the process of life, and it is my job as your therapist to hold space for you to find your way to that.

Our bodies are the living library of all our interactions and hold the story of all our unprocessed emotional sensations. There is so much wisdom available to us in our bodies. In Somatic Therapy we are building capacity for our future selves so that we are not constantly responding from old stories.
